Writing to American Soldiers in Afghanistan

In early December 3rd Graders mailed belated Thanksgiving card to American Soldiers in Afghanistan. One our own classmates has a father serving there. We hope to send Christmas Greetings before the December vacation.

Last Fall Newell-Fonda Football Reader

3rd Graders like books about Flat Stanley. That character has evolved into more and more books, even chapters books. Kaelin Shrank read a book about Flat Stanley at Halloween. They all enjoyed the book. Thanks!

Spelling Test on Fridays

3rd Graders need partners when they take their Spelling Tests on Friday. They buddy up, stay patient, and help each other to accomplish this cooperative task. "3rd Graders are 'Super'!" shares Mrs. Corderman. Each student has an individual spelling list meeting their own goals.

Halloween 2010

Here are the 3rd Graders dressed up in costumes ready for their party! They decorated mini pumpkins with glitter glue. They had great treats and lots of fun! Thanks, parents.

N-F Mustang Reader

Gabe Prodraza was our N-F Mustang Reader on October 8th. He read Whoosh Went the Wind by Sally Derby. This book is about a boy who tried to explain to his teacher why he was late for school. He blames the wind.
Friday, October 8th was a beautiful fall day to get to ride on the fire truck around town. Thank you Newell and Fonda Fire Departments for the bag of informational materials you gave each 3rd Grader.
3rd Graders rode in the equipment fire truck. It was very crowded! It felt like you were riding in a big boat.

Fire Prevention Week Activity

Several firemen from the Newell and Fonda fire departments shared some valuable information about their special gear they wear when fighting a fire. That equipment adds 75 pounds to their weight.

N-F Fitness Walk

3rd Graders and some N-F Seniors walked .97 mile and exercised at several stations along the way. The weather was fantastic!

Mustang Football Reader



Mustang Football Player, Nate Boevers, read the book Crazy Hair Day by Barney Saltzberg. The character in the story dressed pretty wildly for school picture day, but it was the wrong day. Thanks, Nate!

Corn Maze at ISU Allee Farm



Thanks to Lyle Rossiter who invited us to the ISU Allee Farm to experience walking in a corn maze. Thank you also to 2 parents, 2 grandmas, and 1 aunt who went with us. 3rd Graders looked for clues to questions about corn products as they followed the paths through the maze. It was fun and challenging!

N-F Mustang Reader

Anthony Jacobs, a N-F Mustang, was our guest reader on September 10th. He read the 3rd Graders the book How I Became a Pirate. He really surprised them with his super "pirate" voice. Thanks, Anthony!

BV Naturalist: Tree ID

Our new BV Naturalist, Katie Vanderlinden taught the 3rd Graders about tree identification. They learned the difference between deciduous and conifer trees. They had the opportunity to get and look at a few trees up close.
